Almost a decade in the making, the Texas State Cemetery will be published by UT Press in September of 2011. The book tells the story of the State Cemetery, but just as importantly offers a glimpse into the lives of the many honored Texans buried there. Brief biographies of those Texans who shaped the political, military, social and cultural history of the state show snapshots of these important people's lives. Introductions by living Texas icons like Physicist Steven Weinberg, Author Stephen Harrigan, former Secretary of Commerce Don Evans and Texas Ranger Jack Dean give a look into each man's area of expertise with Governor Rick Perry writing an epilogue. The book will prominently feature photos by Texas photographer Laurence Parent, photos from historical archives around the state and supplemental original photography by co-author Will Erwin. The book will be a handsome addition to any library or coffee table of the Texas history aficionado.
