WILLIAMSON, WANDA NELL (1928 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Wanda Williamson, spouse of Billy Roy Williamson, former Texas Department of Public Safety officer. The obituary was provided by Cook-Walden Funeral Home of Austin.

Wanda Nell Griffith Williamson, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Wanda was a life-long Austin resident born on October 2, 1929 to Grady and Gladys Griffith. She grew up in a home located at 39th and Lamar in Hyde Park, and was a 1948 graduate of Austin High School.

On Labor Day weekend 1951 while at Barton Springs, Wanda met the love of her life, Bill Williamson, an Airman stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. They were married on March 21, 1953 at Hyde Park Baptist Church and were blessed with three children. Wanda later went to work at the Texas State Capitol where she worked for the next 35 years. During her career as a secretary and administrative assistant, she worked for over 15 State Representatives and Senators, as well as in the Governor's office. During her years in public service, she also supported her husband in his career as a DPS Highway Patrol Officer assigned to the Governor's security detail. Throughout her career Wanda developed many friendships, and was proud to be a part of the Capitol Rotundas.

Wanda received Christ as her personal savior during a revival service at Hyde Park Baptist Church in 1939, and served faithfully there for over 65 years in teaching G.A.'s Sunday School, children's choir, and volunteering in many capacities. She loved singing in the choir and serving others and was later a charter member of Austin Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her generosity, dedication to her family and church family, and her love of Austin and the State of Texas.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Jean Griffith Hill, and Evelyn Griffith Ellis, and brother Grady J. Griffith, Jr. She is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Billy Roy Williamson of Austin, sons Mark and Jeff Williamson, daughter Jill Williamson Lormand and husband Larry; grandchildren Lance Lormand and wife Danielle, Lindsey (Lormand) Davis and husband Spencer, Libby Lormand and Mark Wade Williamson; two great-grandchildren, Sophie Lormand and Adilynn Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Our loving Mimi will be missed and cherished always.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Cook Walden funeral home. Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at The Texas State Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at Austin Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers are the grandchildren, Lance Lormand, Mark Wade Williamson, Spencer Davis and Mike Carlson with the deacons of Austin Baptist Church serving as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Austin Baptist Church Building Fund.
