Green Hastings (G. H.) McCracken, was a Master Sergeant in Captain William P. Hardeman's Company A, 4th Cavalry, Texas Mounted Volunteers, 1st Regiment, Sibley's Brigade. According to family records, McCracken was was born in May 1838 in Panola County, Mississippi. His family along with their slaves moved to Texas in 1856. Following the War, he founded the town of Albuquerque, Texas, Wilson County, on a section of his father Samuel McCracken's 160 land tract. In addition, the Confederate Home records indicate he was a widower, his spouse, Mary Palmer Meeks McCracken, did not die until 1939 and is buried next to him. Information provided by Ken McCracken.
