GAVIN, JEAN ELIZABETH (1919 ~ 2007). The following is an obituary for Jean Elizabeth Gavin, spouse of former State Representative John Gavin. The obituary was provided by the Gavin family.

"Jean Elizabeth Gavin rejoined her husband of 64 years, in the welcoming hands of God on April 17, 2007. Her husband, Former State Representative John J. Gavin, died February 16th of this year. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 20, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Hoa Nguyen officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 21, 2007 in The Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Jean was born October 29, 1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a 1942 Graduate of St. Mary of the Woods College, in Terre Haute, Indiana and married John J. Gavin on March 2, 1943. She moved to Wichita Falls in 1948 where she and her husband raised their family and became involved in many civic activities. Jean was a dedicated volunteer at the Wichita Falls State Hospital and served as a patient liaison for many years and was also on the Board of the Red Door Senior Citizens group.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Thomas Devine and Thomas Joseph Devine who was killed in World War II. She is survived by five children: Jean Ohm and her husband Al of Dallas; Kathleen von Buren of Austin; Maureen Gavin of Sonoma, California; John Gavin and wife Anne of Fort Worth and Anne Patterson and husband Mike of Wichita Falls. She leaves ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Christian Wake will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 19, 2007, in Lunn's Colonial Chapel.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Wichita Falls and Father Hoa Nguyen of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the support and love they gave their parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in honor of their Mother."
