HUGHES, Robert Higgins
Nov. 26, 1925 - Jan. 13, 2017

Bob passed away peacefully at his home in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Kay, son Robert Hughes, Jr. and wife Tracy of Houston, daughter Ann Louise of San Miguel de Allende Mexico, daughter Mindy and husband Richard Wilensky of Dallas, son Stephen and wife Tammi of Austin, son Britton and wife Cheryl of Dripping Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents Maury and Ann Louise Hughes of Dallas, brother Maury Hughes, Jr., and daughter Kristi Hughes of Austin. He was adored by eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

Robert Higgins Hughes, was born on Thanksgiving morning 1925 to proud parents, Maury Hughes and Ann Louise Higgins Hughes. Bob grew up in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. On his seventeenth birthday, he volunteered to join the then Army Air Corps and served during WWII. After the war, he returned to Dallas and graduated from SMU law school and practiced law with his father's law firm. He was appointed by Texas Attorney General, Price Daniel, as one of only six Assistant Attorneys General in 1951, and moved to Austin to accept the honor. Bob was bitten by the political bug (regardless of his father's warnings) and was elected to represent Dallas County in the Texas House of Representatives where he served four terms from 1957 thru 1963. Governor John Connally appointed Bob Judge of a District Court in Dallas, where he was reelected to several terms before moving to Austin and joining the law firm of Rogers, Hughes and Earl.

Bob loved hunting and fishing and sitting around a campfire in the evening strumming a guitar, singing ballads and telling tall tales. He canoed the wild rivers of Mexico and Texas. He loved the common man, puppies, babies, Mexican food, and Democrats, but most of all, he loved his family and friends, who will miss him mightily.

Please join the family for a celebration of Bob's life on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Cemetery Visitor's Center, 909 Navasota St., Austin, Texas.
