ALLEN, H.D.(1845 ~ 1922) H.D. Allen also appears in military records as D.H. Allen, and it appears he went by Dave Allen later in life. It is uncertain what the letter ‘H‘ stood for in his name. H.D. Allen was a private in the 2nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry State Troops. He enlisted on September 2, 1863 the same year the company was organized. His command saw brief guard duty in winter 1863-64 on the Texas Coast but did not participate in any major battles.

Allen was born in 1845 in Comstock County, Mississippi and came to Texas as a child in 1846. According to his Soldier's Application for a Pension he lived in Roosevelt, Texas for 44 years and was a stockman. It is also known that he had been married as he listed himself as a widower. We do not know his wife‘s name or if they had any children. On February 19, 1922 he was admitted to the Confederate Men‘s Home and he died May 5th of the same year. He was buried in the Texas State Cemetery the next day.
