TANT, JOHN BENJAMIN (1850~1931) John Benjamin Tant was born in Paulding County, Georgia on September 6, 1850.

Taunt fought for the Confederate States Army in Company G, 40th Regiment of Hood's Brigade, in the Army of Tennessee.

Sometime between 1874 and 1876, Tant moved to Texas from Brooks County, Georgia, where he worked as a farmer. On January 9, 1884, Tant married Lee Ann Middleton in Collin County, Texas. According to family lore, Mrs. Tant was a Native American; but there is no proof to back this up. According to the 1900 Census, Tant and his family were living in Uvalde County with eight of their children.

In 1922, Tant petitioned and received permission to take up residence in the Confederate Men's Home in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Tant lived in the Home from January 18, 1923 until his death on April 12, 1931. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery a short time later.
