HARVEY, JOEL C. (1842~1931). Joel C. Harvey was born in Mississippi in 1842. During the Civil War he belonged to Company A, Crescent Louisiana Infantry, Mouton's Brigade, Taylor's Division in the Trans-Mississippi Department. The Louisiana Crescent Consolidated Infantry Regiment was also known as the 24th Infantry Regiment. The Crescent was organized with the 11th and Confederate Guards Response Infantry Battalions at Simmesport on November 2, 1863. The Crescent fought in the Red River Campaign, Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, Yellow Bayou, and Atchafalaya River. The Crescent surrendered on May 26, 1865 by General E.K. Smith, commanding the Trans-Mississippi Department.

Harvey moved to Texas in 1858 and lived in Petrolia, Clay County as an atheist. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on June 30, 1927 where he died February 1, 1931.
