GLASSCOCK, JOHN DAVIS (1839 ~ 1932). John Davis Glasscock, Confederate Veteran, was born in Texas in 1839 to George John Glasscock and Anne Payne Coleman both of Pittsylvania, Virginia. The Glasscocks settled in Travis County, Austin, Texas with seven children and had one more son. All six of their sons served in the Civil War.

According to his compiled service military records, John Glasscock mustered into Company G of the 2nd Texas Cavalry as a private in Captain John Littleton's Company on February 1, 1862. On June 20, 1862, Glasscock re-mustered near Edinburg, Texas, into Captain William Spencer's Company of the same regiment. Glasscock continued to serve in the war and, according to his records, was taken prisoner of war. The records do not state when or where he was taken prisoner, but they do state that Glasscock was paroled on July 25, 1865; almost three months after General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia.

Glasscock returned to Travis County after the war. According to his marriage certificate, Glasscock married Mary Foster on July 9, 1863, in Travis County, Austin, Texas. Confederate Home roster records indicate the Glasscocks had one daughter named Anne and John Glasscock worked as a stock raiser and physician.

By the time Glasscock entered the Confederate Men's Home in Travis County, Austin, Texas, on July 11, 1918, he was a widower. He remained in the home until his death on January 11, 1932, at the age of 92. He died from toxic absorption from burns due to radiation treatment, according to his death certificate. He was interred at the Texas State Cemetery on January 18, 1932.
