STEWART, MARY ANN (1840 ~ 1927). Confederate widow Mary A. Stewart was born on October 16, 1840 in Tennessee. She was born to John Gillom and Elizabeth Holt both of Tennessee. She married John Washington Stewart on November 22, 1854 in Giles County, Tennessee and they had one child named George Washington Stewart. Stewart served in Company A, 11th Tennessee Cavalry during the Civil War. He joined in 1864 and served until the end of the War. The two moved to Texas after the Civil War and John W. Stewart died on July 23, 1902. Mary Stewart applied for a Widow's Pension in September of 1862. She lived in Del Valle, Travis County, Texas for about 10 months before she applied for the pension. She entered the Confederate Woman's Home on October 31, 1927 and died there on February 3, 1936. She was buried at the Texas State Cemetery a short time later.
