GAYLE, SARAH ELIZABETH RUCKER(1845-1937). Sarah Elizabeth Rucker Gayle was born on March 16, 1845, in Gallitin, Tennessee, at Cragfont, the home of her grandparents, General James Winchester and Susan Black Winchester. Her parents were Louisa Winchester Rucker and Edmund Rucker, M.D., of Alabama.

On July 27, 1869, Sarah married Charles Mortimer Gayle, M.D. He was born in Virginia on October 24, 1825, to Bartlett Gayle and Dorothea Buckner Gayle.

Sarah died on September 4, 1936, in Austin, Texas at the home of her daughter Florence Gayle Klipple, son-in-law Henry J. Klipple and their family. She was 91 years old and is buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
