DERROUGH, JULIA O. FEWELL (1852-1937) ~ Julia O. Fewell Derrough was born May 19, 1852, to Richard Robert Fewell and Mary Buchanan Adeneal, both of Rockingham, North Carolina. Julia, along with her six siblings*, were born and raised in Missouri where their father worked as a tavern owner. It was not until 1865, that Julia, along with her family, moved to Texas and settled in Navarro County, Corsicana, where Richard worked as a grocery merchant.

On February 16, 1876, Julia married John Harvey Derrough in Navarro County, Texas. John had two children from a previous marriage: May Bell, who was born in July of 1867, in Texas, and Joseph C., who was born in December of 1869. John and Julia had one child together named Harry H. Derrough who was born in Texas in 1878, and died before 1900. May Bell and Joseph died before 1936.

John was a Confederate Veteran who served with the Texas Conscripts. He served in the armory of the 7th Texas Cavalry. He never went to the field for he worked as a gunsmith for Messr. Whitescarver, Campbell & Co. in Cherokee County, Rusk, Texas. He enlisted in 1862, and served until the close of the war. When John died on January 15, 1913, Julia moved to Tarrant County, Ft. Worth, Texas where she applied for and recieved a Confederate Pension.

It is not known if Julia stayed in Ft. Worth or moved in with a sibling up until her admittance to the Confederate Women‘s Home on November 14, 1936. Julia lived at the home in Travis County, Austin, Texas until her death on August 16, 1937. She was interred two days later at the State Cemetery.
