| | AUTRY, C.P. (1826~1894) C.P. Autry, was a private in the Confederate Army. Little is known about C.P. Autry, who’s last name was spelled ‘Autrey’ in military records. He was born in Tennessee in 1826 and came to Texas in his early twenties. He enlisted in the 8th Texas Cavalry(Terry’s Texas Rangers), Harrison’s Brigade, Wheeler’s Division in Houston, Texas on September 7, 1861; he was 33 years old. But only a couple of months later he was discharged because of an injury to his hand from a fall. He was discharged in Bowling Green, Kentucky on November 21, 1861. Military records say he was 5’11”, had a dark complexion, gray eyes, auburn hair, and black whiskers. When he enlisted his occupation was listed as a laborer.
When C.P. Autry was admitted to the Confederate Men’s Home October 25, 1891 he said he was a widower. Before he entered the home he listed his residence as Hill County. C.P. Autry died July 15, 1894 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
