BLAKEMORE, MARY CURTIS RAND (1849-1942) ~ Mary Curtis Rand Blakemore was born February 15, 1849, in Alabama to first cousins John and Annie Rand of North Carolina.
Mary married William White Blakemore on January 30, 1872, in Bedford County, Shelbyville, Tennessee. William was born in Tennessee to Dr. Jehu and Mrs. Gotha Blakemore. During the Civil War, William mustered into Company F of the 41st Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry.
After the war, Mary and William moved to White County, Arkansas where William died on January 3, 1891. Assumedly, Mary went to live with her nephew, Hart Humphries of Seminole, Oklahoma. Then, in 1897, Mary moved to Cherokee County, Rusk, Texas and lived with a relative. In 1918, Mary visited relatives in California, presumedly her niece-in-law, Ruth Rice of South Pasedena. After her visit, she returned to Texas and continued living in Rusk until the relative she was living with died. Upon her death, Mary moved back to Oklahoma to live with Mr. Humphries in October of 1933. Because she could no longer receive her pension warrants during the time she was living in Oklahoma, Mary moved back to Texas in May of 1934. Five years later, on January 24, 1939, Mary entered the Confederate Women‘s Home in Austin, Texas and died there on February 18, 1942. She was interred at the Texas State Cemetery the following day. Because Mary and William had no children, her closest surviving relatives were the Humphries‘, in which they received all of Mary‘s effects upon her passing.
