CARROLL, CAMILLE MITCHELL(1923 ~ 2006). The following is an obituary for Camille Mitchell Carroll, spouse of Joe Robert Carroll who was a longtime member of the Texas Water Commission. The obituary was provided by Weed, Corley, Fish Funeral Home of Austin.

"Camille died peacefully on July 15, 2006 under the loving care of her family and the staff at Christopher House of Hospice Austin. She was born December 1, 1923 in Waco to Arthur and Mary Edna Mitchell. She graduated from Waco High School and Baylor University, and in 1943, she married Joe Carroll of Palestine.

Camille and Joe lived and raised a family in Palestine, Austin, and Snyder. In 1974, they returned to Austin when Joe was appointed to the Texas Water Rights Commission. Joe preceded her in death in 1982. She also survived her sister, Doris Smith of Waco, who died earlier this year.

Camille is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Pamela Carroll, and their children Frank Carroll and Hannah Carroll Knight, all of Austin; her daughter Ellen and son-in-law Dwaine Boydstun of Austin; and her daughter and son-in-law, Tobin and Steve Wangerin, and their children Hayley, Peter, Molly, and Brad, all of Thousand Oaks California.

Curious, witty, and involved in the world around her, Camille touched the lives of many friends, young and old, who visited her for interesting conversation and advice. She was creative and resourceful, finding ways to remain independent despite illness and disability. Camille created a charming environment in her home with her beloved antiques and collectibles, especially enjoying decorating for Christmas.

Visitation will be at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, on Thursday July 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A private commitment service will be held at the State Cemetery Friday, July 21, followed at 2:30 by a memorial service and reception at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Boulevard, Austin.

The family expresses gratitude and appreciation to Dr. William McCarron, whose devoted care over nearly thirty years allowed Camille to watch her grandchildren grow to adulthood, and to the staff at Christopher House who made her last few days blessedly comfortable and peaceful.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Austin, www.hospiceaustin.org, or the charity of your choice."
