TEAGUE, MARVIN ODELL (1933 ~ 1991). The following is a biography of Marvin Odell Teague and it was taken from his obituary which was printed in an unknown paper on February 21, 1991.
"Marvin Odell Teague was born on November 10, 1933, in Caldwell, Texas, to Henry Gale and Nancy (Cannon) Teague. Judge Teague joined the Court on January 1, 1981. Prior to assuming the bench, Judge Teague served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
He received a Bachelor of Education in 1954 and Master of Education in 1957, both from Southwest Texas State University. Additionally, he served as president of the Southwest Texas State University Alumni Association from 1981 to 1982. Judge Teague received his law degree from the University of Houston School of Law and was admitted as a member of the State Bar of Texas in 1961.
He was also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; and the United States District Court, Southern District. Judge Teague served as City Attorney in Spring Valley from 1969 to 1971. He served as a senior administrative assistant for the Court of Criminal Appeals from 1971 to 1972.
He enjoyed a distinguished and successful practice of law in Houston from 1972 to 1981. Judge Teague was a member of the following organizations: Houston Bar Association and served as chairman of its Criminal Law Section in 1979; Travis County Bar Association; Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, and served as president during 1975 to 1976; Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and served as director from 1976 to 1980 and as editor of the Significant Decisions Report for the 'Voice for the Defense' from 1974 to 1980; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Trial Lawyers Association of America; Texas Trial Lawyers Association; American Judicature Society; National District Attorneys Association; and Texas District and County Attorneys Association.
Judge Teague was an author for, and an editorial consultant to, Matthew-Bender Law Book Company's Texas Criminal Practice Guide. Judge Teague died on February 20, 1991, at 57 years of age."
