Service for Eulalah Ruth Green Kersey, 80, of Bridgeport was Friday at the Cuba Road Church in Bridgeport. Glen kersey and Joey Vick presided with burial at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
Kersey died May 20, 1998, in Fort Worth.
Born August 5, 1917 in Bridgeport, she was a member of the Cuba Road Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was also a member of the Quilting club, the Wise County Art Association, and an honorary lifetime member of the PTA.
Kersey had served as principal of Northview Baptist Christian School in Austin and was active in the adult literacy program, the HOST program, the Ole’ reading program and tutored young people in reading.
She was a member of the Bridgeport Planning and zoning Commission and served as Bridgeport’s election judge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Kersey, a former member of the Texas House of Representatives.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, W.C. “Bill” and Shirley Kersey of Forney and Jim W. and Sally Kersey of Garland; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Eldon Kaker of Bridgeport; two sisters, Carrie Ann Hartsell and Marie Boulware, sister-in-law, Della Jo Kersey Ferris; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Kaker, Carl Kaker, Bill Clinton Kersey, John Thomas Hartsell, James Lowell Ferris and Wesley Ferris. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Hawkins, Christopher Kaker, Robert Shannon and Paul Kersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial in Mrs. Kersey’s name be made to the Cuba Baptist Building Fund.
