Michael J. Doyle

DOYLE, MICHAEL J. (1822 ~ 1898). Michael J. Doyle, Confederate veteran, was born December 22, 1822, in Arkansas. After immigrating to Texas in 1852, Doyle married his wife, Mary Ann, on January 16, 1860 in Travis County.

After the outbreak of the Civil War, Doyle, on March 15, 1862, enlisted in the Confederate Army and served in Company G of the 16th Texas Infantry. The 16th Texas was organized at Camp Groce near Hempstead, Austin County, on March 25, 1862 and took part in the Battle of Milliken's Bend, June 7, 1863, the Red River Campaign, March-May 1864, the Camden Expedition, March-May 1864, the Battle of Mansfield, April 8, 1864, the Battle of Pleasant Hill, April 9, 1864 and the Battle of Jenkins' Ferry, April 30, 1864. According to his military records, Doyle in January or February, 1864, was detached from his unit and sent to the Commissary Department in Little Rock, Arkansas.

After the War, Doyle returned to Austin, where he worked as a civil engineer. On August 12, 1896, he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home and died two years later on October 11, 1898.
