CONWAY, JAMES (1813 ~ 1898). Comfederate veteran James Conway was born in 1813.

He was mustered into service in the Civil War on May 15, 1861 and became part of the 19th Mississippi Infantry Company E.

Upon joining the Confederacy, Conway and his regiment were part of the force that fought in the upper Shenandoah Valley. Conway and his unit also participated in the Battle of Williamsburg on May 5, 1862 and next in the Battle of Seven Pines between May 31 and June 1 of the same year. The next battle Conway's unit participated in was the Seven Days Battle (June 25 through July 1).

Conway was injured at the Seven Days Battle and was treated in a Richmond hospital for the next two months. Upon returning to the service however, Conway fell ill and was in and out of hospitals from Richmond to Mobile until he withdrew from the army on January 6, 1865.

Conway moved to Texas after the war and moved into the Confederate Men's Home in Austin on July 17, 1898. He resided at the Home until his death on December 17, 1898.

Conway was buried at the Texas State Cemetery the next day.
