FLOWERS, DONNA HAAS (1926 ~ 2009). The following is an obituary for Donna Haas Flowers, spouse of Robert C. Flowers, former executive director of the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct. The obituary was provided by Weed, Corley, Fish Funeral Home.
Donna Flowers, nee Haas, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. She was born June 14, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Elmer and Lucille Haas. Donna was raised in Lincoln and attended the University of Nebraska. During the WWII period she met and married Robert Flowers, Jr., of Charlotte, Texas and the Army Air Corps, on August 30, 1945; a marriage which would last 64 years. While always a proud daughter of Nebraska, Donna became a proud resident of her beloved adopted state, Texas.

As Bob practiced law, Donna raised their family. She made the trains run on time, was the wind beneath their collective wings, and did it with grace and dignity. Besides being the heart of the household, Donna loved sewing, drive-in movies, Erol Garner, opera, picnics, travel, bridge and peonies. She also spent time in a variety of volunteer and other organizations including Circle V of First United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for 14 years; Treasurer and President of State Officials Ladies Club; Member Grand Jury Association; Board Member Y.M.C.A.; Austin Lawyers Wives Club, and school and other activities of her children and grandchildren. Professionally, Donna worked for the federal government as a civil servant, and also worked as a real estate agent.

She is survived by her children, Jyl Cole and husband, Grant, Robert Flowers III and wife, Lydia, and Tracey Bess Flowers of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren Alex Cole, Joseph Flowers and wife Lauren, William Cole and wife Robin, Katherine Cole Smith and husband Paul, Angela Flowers, Amanda Flowers, Andrea Flowers, and Joshua Flowers, and great-grandson Michael Flowers. She is predeceased by her husband Robert Flowers and her brother Duane Haas of Omaha, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, January 3rd, Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, Austin, from six to eight p.m. Burial will be Monday, January 4th, 12 noon, Texas State Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Austin. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandson-in-law, Paul Smith, and nephew, Terry Haas. Honorary pallbearers are the Wedding Ring Class of FUMC Austin, TX, and the Third floor staff of The Plaza at Querencia.

If you would like to honor Donna, the family prefers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, and the Endowment Fund, First United Methodist Church, Austin.
