JOHNSON, GEORGE W. (1835 ~ 1904). Former Confederate soldier George W. Johnson was born June 1835 in Union County, Illinois. Johnson enlisted in the Confederate Army in April 1861 in Henderson, Texas and later joined forces in San Antonio. He fought with Company H of Green's 1st Texas Cavalry. He came to Texas in 1842 with his parents, Hampton Johnson and Sarah "Sally" Evans, and married Georgana McWilliams in about 1886 and settled in Cisco, Texas to become a farmer. They had six children: John Hampton (1887), T. or L.W. (1888), M.E. (1891), A.J. (1893), H.W. (1896) and T.J. (1898). He died in the Confederate Men's Home in Austin July 28, 1904 and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
