YOUNG, JAMES W. (1822-1905) ~ James W. Young, Confederate veteran, was born in 1822, in Prince Edward, Virginia. He worked as a farmer before the outbreak of the war, and on May 7, 1861, he enlisted in Company H of the 1st Regiment Texas Calvary at Camp Cooper under Captain Berry.

Young was wounded during the war at an unknown time. His Confederate roster reads that his disabilities were gun shot wounds and skull fractures. After the war James returned to Texas and resumed his occupation of farmer.

On July 17, 1895, James was admitted to the Confederate Men‘s Home in Austin, Texas, where he died almost ten years later on March 7, 1905. He is buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
