J. W. Young

YOUNG, JOHN W. (1827-1907) ~ John W. Young, Confederate Veteran, was born in 1827, in Alabama. He came to Texas in 1847, at the age of twenty and worked as a farmer.

During the war, Young mustered into Company G of the 33rd Regiment of the Texas Cavalry of Duff‘s Partisan Rangers. This unit was mainly active along the Rio Grande and Bonham, Texas. This unit was also included in the surrender on June 2, 1865.

It is assumed that Young returned to Texas, to farming, and to his family. There is evidence of him being married with children for by the time he enters the Confederate Men‘s Home in Austin, Texas, he is a widower and his contact informants are J.J. Young and J.W. Young. The latter two may or may not be children but brothers. John Young stayed in the Confederate Home until his death on January 5, 1907, and is buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
