JOHNSTON, WILLIAM HOVIS (1832 ~ 1907). Confederate veteran William Hovis Johnston was born in Tennessee in 1832. After leaving Tennessee at an unknown time, he enlisted in Company C, 2nd Texas Cavalry at Fort Davis, Texas in September 1861.

Following the Civil War, he married Margaret Ann Huffman on June 5, 1867 in Brenham, Washington County, Texas. They had three children: Esther, Frank, and Margaret. He was machinist in Galveston. He entered the Confederate Men's Home on June 16, 1903. He died on April 8, 1907 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
