MCCRARY, WILLIAM A. (1840 ~ 1908). William McCrary was born in 1840. During the Civil War he belonged to Company G, 4th Alabama Cavalry (Roddey's Cavalry).

McCrary enlisted on September 22, 1861, and was discharged May 1864. The 4th was assigned to protect Alabama and Mississippi from Union attacks. The unit fought at the Battle of Tishomingo Creek in 1864.

It is unclear when he moved to Texas, but McCrary lived in Austin, Travis County by 1908 where he was a liveryman. He died July 24, 1908 at the Confederate Men's Home.
