SCOTT, J. C. (1833 ~ 1909). Confederate veteran John C. Scott was born in 1833 in the city of Mexico, Virginia. He moved to Texas in 1853 and lived in San Antonio, Bexar County.
During the Civil War he served in Company L, 8th Texas Cavalry. The 8th cavalry was also known as Terry's Texas Rangers. Terry's Texas Rangers fought in many battles including Shiloh, Corinth, and Atlanta. They surrendered under Joseph E. Johnston at Durham Station, Orange County, North Carolina on April 26, 1865.
He married Emma Armistead on September 13, 1865 in Bedford County, Virginia. She was from Charlotte County, Virginia.
Scott worked on the railroad before being admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin on June 12, 1907. He died at the Home on July 7, 1909 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
