BROWN, CHARLES D.(1836 ~ 1908). Confederate veteran Charles Brown was born in 1836 in Scotland and immigrated to the United States at an unknown time.

During the Civil War he served in Company E, 5th Texas Infantry, Hood's Brigade in the Northern Virginia Army. Company E was from Washington County under John D. Rogers and known as "the Dixie Blues."

The 5th Infantry fought the entire war on the eastern front. The unit fought at the battles of Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Petersburg before surrendering at Appomattox Court House in Virginia on April 9, 1865.

Brown moved to Texas in 1851, and lived in Wallisville, Chambers County where he was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a tin miner who suffered from neuralgia when he was admitted to the Confederate Home on July 25, 1908.
