MELTON, ROBERT WILLIAM (1943 ~ ). Robert Melton was born December 19, 1943 in Rocksprings, Texas to William Elsie Melton and Laura Hart Melton. Mr. Melton was educated in Odessa public schools and graduated Ector High School in 1960.

He received a Masters of Business Administration and a advanced degree in economic development, he performed graduate level work at Texas A&M, University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at San Antonio, and LaSalle University. Mr. Melton is a published author who has written on many subjects varying from public policy and economic development.

His treatise "Regional Marketing Strategies for Success" is a detailed approach on how to develop community economies in the new millennium. Robert Melton was elected to the Oglesby School Board in 1978 and was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984 from Coryell County. He resigned September 1, 1990 after serving three terms. During his tenure in the Legislature he focused on children and criminal justice issues.

He authored legislation to reform the criminal justice system and legislation assisting missing, runaway, throwaway and underprivileged children. Mr. Melton's main goal "was to keep Texas youth out of the criminal justice system." Upon his departure from the Texas House, he worked as Assistant Director of Marketing for the Texas Department of Commerce, marketing Texas to out of state entities, developing regional economic development plans for the Governor's Office and consulting with communities across the state on developing local economies.

Mr. Melton served his community and the state of Texas in many ways. Including Chairman, United States Olympic Committee for Central Texas; Chairman, Select Committee on Teen Suicide; Delegate, County, State, and National Conventions; Member, American Economic Development council; Member, Texas Economic Development Council; and President of the Little League to name a few. Currently, Bob Melton is the Executive Director of the Dallas All Sports Association, which, provides scholarships and other sports related funding for Dallas area youth.
