WRIGHT, JOHN (1835-1911) ~ John Wright, Confederate Veteran, was born in Texas in 1835. He worked as a farmer until the start of the war. Wright mustered into the 3rd Texas Cavalry Green Regiment under Captain S.M. Hale. The 3rd Regiment Texas Cavalry was mustered into the service of the Confederate States June 13, 1861, and was re-organized in May 1862. It was also known as the South Kansas Texas Regiment of Cavalry and the South Kansas Texas Regiment of Mounted Volunteers. During the war, Wright became injured when a horse fell on him, dislocating his right hip. He however, served the full four years of the war and returned home to Texas in 1865.


From 1872 to 1909, Wright lived in Fannin County, Texas. On July 6, 1910, Wright was admitted to the Confederate Men‘s Home in Austin, Texas where he died almost one year later on June 19, 1911. Wright was buried in the State Cemetery the following day.
