POERNER, JOHN HENRY (1932 ~ 2022). The following is an obituary for John Poerner, former member of the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Railroad Commissioner. The obituary was provided by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home of Castroville.

John Henry Poerner went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 23, 2022, in Round Rock, Texas. He was born in D'Hanis, TX, on Nov. 21, 1932, to Henry Jacob Poerner and Maria Amalia (Mollie) Zerr Poerner.

A graduate of D'Hanis High School, he served in the United States Air Force before becoming a Land Surveyor, Rancher, Legislator, Railroad Commissioner, and Papal Knight. John was a loving and devoted husband of 66 years, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of 32.

John Henry is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughters, Margaret Agnes Poerner and infant daughter Mary Poerner. He is survived by his daughters, Donna (Terry) Mechler, Lucy (John) Needham, Cathy (Ray) Supak, Sarah (Christopher) Hahn; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Anita Poerner Tschirhart, sisters-in-law Mary Agnes Ney Gilhooly and Margaret Ney; brothers-in-law Mathias Koch and Tom (Margie) Ney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation: Wed., July 6, 2022, 4-7 pm with the Holy Rosary at 5:30 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, 1016 Lorenzo St., Castroville, TX 78009. Mass of Christian Burial: 9:30 am on Thurs., July 7, 2022 at St. Mary Cathedral, 203 E. 10th Street, Austin, TX 78701. Interment: Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Arrangements by Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.
