POERNER, MARGARET AGNES (1955 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Margaret A. Poerner, daughter of John H. Poerner, former Member of the Texas House of Representatives and Railroad Commissioner. Obituary was provided by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home of Hondo.

Margaret Agnes Poerner, of New Braunfels, Texas, 63, surrounded by family, went to be with Jesus on March 9, 2018. Born in Hondo, Texas, on January 3, 1955, she was the beloved eldest daughter of John H. and JoAnn Poerner.

Born intellectually disabled, she nonetheless had a lust for life while living at home and at special care facilities. She easily won the affection of her caregivers and roommates with her enthusiastic greetings, generous hugs, passion for music, and her adorable confidence. Even without the gift of speech, Margaret could still communicate and spread joy.

Margaret was preceded in death by her grandparents, former DHanis residents, Herman and Agnes Ney, Henry and Molly Poerner.

She is survived by her parents; her four sisters, Donna (Terry) Mechler of New Braunfels, Lucy (John) Needham of Austin, Cathy (Ray) Supak of Houston, Sarah (Christopher) Hahn of Round Rock, Tx.; Nieces: Christen (Christopher) Colquitt, Lauren (Dr. Elijah) Bolin, Amanda (Brandon Fredrick) Supak, Reagan and Rachel Hahn; Nephews: Joshua Needham, Jordan (Hannah) Needham, Grayson (Natasha) Mechler, Garrett (Becca) Mechler, Rev. Cameron Supak, and August Hahn; Eight great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, March 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel.

A rosary at 9:30 a.m. will precede the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, New Braunfels, Texas. Burial will follow at Texas State Cemetery in Austin.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Catholic Charities USA or a charity of your choice.
