GARZA, DOLORES SCOTT (1930 ~ 2009). The following is an obituary for Dolores Scott Garza, spouse of Gonzalo Garza. The obituary was provided by Cook-Walden Funeral Home.

"Dolores Scott Garza, age 78, a Sodalist of Mary, dedicated educator and devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gonzalo Garza, her son and daughter-in-law Charles Lee and Mary Garza, her son and daughter-in-law Louis Anthony and Cindy Garza, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia Diane and Edgar Mendel, her son Lawrence Gonzalo Garza and her son and daughter-in-law David Thomas and Angela Garza and her ten grandchildren Karly Renee Garza, Kacy Lynn (Garza) Janysek, Taylor Mercedes Mendel, Kody Scott Garza, Jessica Lee Garza, Hunter Christian Mendel, Kory Gonzalo Garza, Valerie Ann Garza, Nathan Thomas Garza, and Winona Victoria Garza.

Dolores was born on October 24, 1930 to Lee Hall and Mercedes Elizondo Scott in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School in Corpus Christi in 1949, graduated from Del Mar Junior College with an Associate of Arts degree in 1951 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas in 1968. She began her 32 years as an educator in 1960 and the span of her extensive career included teaching assignments at thirteen different elementary schools in Corpus Christi, Houston, Eagle Pass, New Braunfels, and Austin, Texas until her retirement from Summit Elementary School in Austin, Texas in 1993.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pan American Round Table, ROANN's (Rotary Club), Alpha Delta Kappa and the Altar & Rosary Society. She was an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Texas. Dolores had a love for music that included a joy for ballet dancing, piano, and chorus. Upon her retirement, Dolores enjoyed traveling abroad and throughout the United States with her husband Gonzalo and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all of the staff and medical personnel at the Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock, Texas and the Cabins at Rocky Hollow and Lighthouse Hospice Care in Georgetown, Texas who were so dedicated and loving in their care of Dolores. They were not only a support to her but also provided strength to the entire Garza family.

There will be a visitation at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 followed by a rosary that will begin at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dolores' memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Capital Area Chapter, 3424 Executive Center Drive, Suite 100, Austin, Texas, 78731."
