BRYAN, LAURA HARRISON JACK (1839~1872) Laura Harrison Jack Bryan, wife of Guy Morrison Bryan, was born to William Houston and Laura Harrison Jack on January 13, 1839, in Brazoria County, Texas. On October 20, 1858, Miss Jack married Guy Morrison Bryan, nephew of Stephen F. Austin and former member of the Texas Legislature. Shortly after their marriage, the Bryans moved to Washington, D. C., where Guy Morrison was representing the Western District of Texas in the United States Congress. Following their return to Texas in 1860, the Bryans moved to Galveston, where Laura stayed while her husband was away during the Civil War. While living in Galveston, Laura died on January 1, 1872. The Bryans had five children, William Jack Bryan; Emily Bryan; Laura Harrison Bryan Parker; Hally Ballinger Bryan Perry, co-founder of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas; and Guy Morrison Bryan. Laura and Guy are buried in the Texas State Cemetery with two of their daughters, Laura Parker and Hally Perry, and next to Laura’s parents, William Houston and Laura Harrison Jack.
