MICHEL, AUGUST (1836 ~ 1915). Confederate veteran August Michel was born in 1836 in Germany, but immigrated to the United States as a child and settled in Texas.

Michel joined the Confederate Army at the outbreak of the Civil War, enlisting April 1, 1862 at New Braunfels, Texas. He was assigned as a Private to the 3rd Regiment of the Texas Infantry.

The Texas Infantry saw little action during the War, however. It's primary duty was coastal defense against Union raids and never actually saw any action.

After the War, Michel settled in Guadalupe County, Texas and worked as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin and died on February 17, 1915.
