KORIOTH, ANTHONY THOMAS (1933 ~ 2008). The following is an obituary for former member of the Texas House of Representatives Thomas Anthony "Tony" Korioth. The obituary was publishes in the Houston Chronicle, the Austin American Statesman and the Dallas Morning News on June 1, 2004.

"Thomas Anthony (Tony) Korioth was born in 1933 in Sherman, Texas and died on May 29, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Claire, and four children, Tommy, William, John, and Ann.

Korioth graduated from St. Edward's University and The University of Texas School of Law. He served the people of Texas as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, as Assistant Counsel to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and as a member of the Texas Industrial Accident Board.

A Democrat--without prefix, suffix or explanation--he was a liberal who believed in the rights of all and not of a few. He filed the lawsuit that established 'one man one vote' for all Texans.

Tony cared for people who needed protection whether they were disenfranchised voters, farm workers without insurance coverage or those injured in the workplace. Without Tony's voice and action many issues of discrimination would still exist.

He was most proud that his work as Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Farm Workers' Compensation resulted in farm workers' compensation coverage for the first time in history.

A frequent seminar speaker and writer, Korioth authored, 'A Guide To Texas Workers' Compensation,' 'Digest of Workers' Compensation Law,' and co-authored the 'Texas Workers' Compensation Desk Book.'

He served as General Counsel to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool since its inception in 1974. He was Of Counsel to Walker, Bright and Lewis, P.C., a minority owned law firm.

Tony's life was defined by his love for his family and friends. He adored his employees and they adored him. He appreciated their work, guided their careers and considered them all personal friends.

Tony was proud of his wife and four children. He was happiest when telling his friends stories about their accomplishments. He was the most loyal friend anyone could have and the most generous, always giving far more than he took.

Tony and Claire loved to travel and enjoyed summers at their cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Some of his favorite hours were spent on the golf course and in Las Vegas with his sons.

Services will be held at the Texas State Cemetery, 909 Navasota in Austin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2004.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Austin Planned Parenthood Choice Project, 707 Rio Grande, Austin, Texas, 78701, or to the charity of your choice."
