DUNCAN, JULIUS OTTIS (1926 ~ 2023). The following is an obituary for former Member of the Texas House of Representatives J.O. Duncan. The obituary was provided by Cook-Walden Funeral Home of Austin.

Julius "J.O." Ottis Duncan Jr. of Austin, TX passed away on November 7, 2023 at the age of 97. He was born on October 28, 1926 in Dike, TX to Julius "Ott" Ottis Duncan Sr. and Mozelle Lundy Duncan. He grew up in Upsher County.

J.O. graduated from East Mountain High School in 1944, then attended Kilgore Junior College, and later attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.

J.O. later worked in the insurance field and was actively involved in International Order of Odd Fellows and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

J.O. was preceded in death by his parents Julius "Ott" Ottis Duncan Sr. and Mozelle Lundy Duncan; brothers Joe David Duncan, Jack Aaron Duncan, Robert Lester Duncan; sister Brenda Kay Duncan; and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Baggett.

J.O. is survived by his wife Nancy Masden Duncan; son Howard Ott Duncan; daughters Donna Duncan Hager, Janet Duncan Baggett, Suzanne Duncan Frilot; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother James Michael Duncan; sisters Joyce Elaine Payne, Delores Bauer, Carole Jean Duncan, Linda Nell Duncan, Nancy Jane McGill; as well as by his nieces and nephews.

J.O. was a highly decorated WWII and Korean Vet, and served as a Texas State Representative as the youngest member to serve in the House of Representatives at that time.

The family would like to thank Tom Rodes, Carlos Munoz, and amazing neighbors for the care and compassion they showed J.O. in their final days.

Family and friends are invited to attend a service at Texas State Cemetery at 909 Navasota Street, Austin, TX 78702 on Monday, November 13th at 2pm.

Interment to follow at Texas State Cemetery immediately following the service.
