Edward Hueber Sheridan

SHERIDAN, EDWARD HUEBER (1921 ~ 1996). the following is a brief biographical sketch of former Texas House of Representative Member Edward Hueber Sheridan provided by Marjorie Sheridan.

"Edward Sheridan was born April 3, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas, to Dennis Patrick Sheridan and Mae Felictas Hueber. He was the fourth of nine children - four boys and five girls. His father immigrated from Ireland to the United States when he was 20 years old. His mother was from the state of Georgia.

He attended Catholic schools through eighth grade at which time he attended Alamo Heights High School, graduating in 1938. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army of the United State for one year and attended West Point Preparatory School at Camp Bullis, Texas. He was discharged on June 30, 1939, when his term of service expired, maintaining a Reserve status.

He attended the University of Texas at Austin for one year and the University of San Antonio for one year.

He was recalled to active duty on July 1, 1941, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, as a private in the 37th FA BN in the 2nd Infantry Division. He served with this Division in the European Theater, landing on Normandy Beach in 1944. He continued to serve with this Division through VE Day in May 1945. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and American Defense Service medals. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Warrant Officer JG on December 31, 1945, at Camp Swift, Texas.

He returned to San Antonio, Texas, to rejoin his wife, Marjorie Gragg Sheridan, who he married April 18, 1942. They had two children; a daughter, Sharon Lee, and a son, Michael Gragg. Mr. Sheridan was in the insurance business, was active in the Lions club and served as a vice-president in the Texas Junior Chamber of Commerce.

In 1953, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives where he served three terms representing Bexar County. He later joined the Federal Housing Administration in San Antonio. In 1965, his work with FHA brought him to Austin.

Upon retiring from FHA, he started his own business in Austin, AAA Construction Inspection, and he worked extensively with most of Austin's largest homebuilders. He was a member of the Association of Federal Appraisers.

Upon retiring in 1990, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico during trips to the family's Rockport home.

He died on June 1, 1996 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery."
