CARTER, BILL G. (1928 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Bill G. Carter, former Texas House member. The obituary was provided by Greenwood Funeral Home of Fort Worth.

Bill G. Carter FORT WORTH -- Bill G. Carter, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at the age of 89 surrounded by his family.

SERVICE: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, in Greenwood Chapel, Fort Worth. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, in Texas State Cemetery, Austin, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Greenwood.

Bill was born Oct. 2, 1928, to Clarence Jack and Vela Odessa Carter. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1946 and attended Texas A&M. Bill worked at Cabot Carbon Black Plant before beginning his 66-year career with State Farm Insurance. In 1984 Bill began a productive career in the Texas House of Representatives where he served the people of District 91 and chaired multiple House committees during his 21 years of service.

Representative Carter was active in many organizations such as the American Legislative Exchange Council, Commission on State Emergency Communications, Fort Worth Elks Lodge #124, and the Northeast Tarrant County Chamber of Commerce. He received numerous awards, including the 1997 Legislator of the Year Award, The Thomas Jefferson Award from the American Legislative Exchange Council. While serving in the Texas House, Representative Carter sponsored the Concealed Handgun legislation. He was named the Father of 911 in Texas for his extensive efforts to provide the 911 emergency call service to all the people of Texas. He also worked to increase public safety with legislation to require front seat belts for passengers and bicycle helmets for children.

Bill loved sports, politics, the lake, and bragging about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His parents, Clarence Jack and Vela Odessa Carter; and his sister, Jacque Pedigo, preceded Bill in death.

Virginia Carter, his wife of 26 years, and Sandra Bebee, his sister, will cherish many wonderful memories of him. He will be missed greatly by his children, Nancy Larmer and husband, Bob, Linda Pulattie and husband, Mike, Janet Lehrmann and husband, Mike, Greg Carter and wife, Molly; and their mother, Ellis Marie Patschke; his stepsons, Ken Campbell and Carr Campbell and wife, Jennifer, will also miss him. G-Daddy was adored by his 12 grandchildren, Scheri Hogan (Chris), Tony Williams, Kristy Harden (Josh), Josh Pulattie (Abi), Amanda Webb (Jordan), Chelsea Hampton (Trey), Mallory Lehrmann, Karen Lehrmann, Bryan Carter, Megan Huneycutt (Drew), Jessica Jacobsen (Alex), Jonny Carter; and stepgrandchildren, Aiden Campbell, Caelan Campbell and Connelly Campbell. His legacy will continue with his 11 great-grandchildren, Lars Hogan, Erik Hogan, Carter Harden, Caleb Harden, Grayson Webb, Maddox Webb, Olivia Hampton, William Hampton, Tatum Rios, Hadley Huneycutt, and Scarlett Jacobsen.
