The following is an Associated Press article that was published on Saturday, August 5, 2006 upon the death of former Judge and Texas House of Representatives Member J.C. "Zeke" Zbranek. The article appeared in numerous newspapers throughout the state including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"Former state judge Zbranek dies at 76

DEVERS, Texas - Former state District Judge J.C. "Zeke" Zbranek, who began his political career as a three-term House representative for Liberty and Chambers counties, has died. He was 76.

Zbranek died Friday after a bout with cancer, said his son, Zeb Zbranek. A former Navy lieutenant in the Korean War, Zbranek served as a Democrat in the Legislature from 1954 to 1960. He was elected to the 75th District Court in 1990 and remained on the bench until he retired in 2002.

Zbranek, who earned his law degree from the University of Texas while serving in the Texas House, was also a Lamar University regent from 1973 to 1979.

Funeral services will be held Monday in Liberty, with a private burial at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin on Tuesday."
