LEGLER, KEN J. (1957 ~ 2012). The following is an obituary for Ken Legler, former member of the Texas House of Representatives. The obituary was published in a variety of news sources throughout the state.

State Representative of Texas District 144, died on June 1, 2012. He was born December 27, 1957 in Houston, Texas to Clarence and Shirley Legler. Ken was first elected to represent Texas House District 144 in Harris County in 2008, and served during the 81st and 82nd Legislative Sessions.

In September 2010 he was appointed as District Staff Officer, Legislative and State Liaison for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary 8th Coastal Region mentoring and supervising State Liaison officers in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas.

Ken received a Coast Guard Unit Commendation for his operations excellence in 2010.

A third generation Texan, Ken was a genuine Pasadena native, who chose to live, work, and play in East Harris County. He was educated in the Pasadena public schools. Ken started working at Houston Wire Works in South Houston after graduating from high school and worked his way from a starting production worker to President. In 2001 he and his wife bought the company, and they also started other small businesses internationally in Europe and Mexico.

Ken has coached boys and girls sports and was elected commissioner of teenage baseball in Pasadena for 2 years.

He has also served as a board member for the Chamber of Commerce and economic development organizations in the area.

Ken is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara, and their three children, Joseph and wife Victoria, Krystina Legler and Kathryn Cruz and husband Shelby. Ken also leaves behind two grandchildren that he adored, Brendan and Tucker. Also left to mourn are brothers Kip Legler and wife Linda and brother Kim Legler, and many other friends and family.

A lifetime focus on faith, Ken and Barbara are active at Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church where Ken is a lifelong member.

Visitation will be Tuesday Evening, June 5, 2012 from 5 - 8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Home 3939 Pasadena Blvd. in Pasadena, Texas. Funeral Services will be Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 2 PM at Grace Community Church located at 14505 Gulf Freeway in Houston. Representative Legler will be laid to rest on Thursday June 7, 2012 at 1 PM at Texas State Cemetery in Austin, Texas with honors well deserved for his service to the Great State of Texas.
