CHAPPELL, MARTHA (1850 ~ 1928). Martha Chappell, wife of Confederate veteran R. M. Chappell, was born in Georgia in 1850.

R.M. Chappell served in Company G of the 53rd Georgia Infantry, as a private. His unit fought at the battles of Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and the Wilderness while Chappell was a member.

After marrying R. M. Chappell, Martha Chappell and her husband migrated to Texas in 1881. They eventually settled in Anderson County, where R. M. successfully applied for a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas.

After moving to Normangee, Texas, to live with their son N. R., the Chappells moved to Austin on September 22, 1927, to live in the Confederate Men's Home.

Martha Chappell lived at the Home for only a few months as she died on February 9, 1928. She was buried in the Texas State Cemetery two days later.
