PERDUE, JOHN D. (1847 ~ 1931). Confederate veteran John Perdue was born in 1847 in Butler County, Alabama. Perdue moved to Texas in 1860 and lived in Hamlin, Jones County.

During the Civil War he served in Company B, Bradley's Regiment, Waul's Legion of the Trans-Mississippi Army. After the Vicksburg campaign, Waul's Legion was reorganized and Colonel Barnard Timmons took command of the unit. The Legion spent the remainder of the War along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Perdue was discharged from Confederate service at Fairfield, Texas in the summer of 1865 and returned to Hamlin. Perdue married at some point, but his spouse's name is not known.

Perdue applied for a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas in January of 1914 and it was granted on March 1, 1914.

He was a widowed farmer complaining of disabilities from old age when was admitted to the Confederate Home on August 10, 1928 from Hamlin, Texas. He died at the Home on February 19, 1931 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
