MORRIS, DOROTHY ONETA McCLURG (1914 ~ 2008). The following is an obituary for Dorothy Oneta McClurg Morris, spouse of former Member of the Texas House of Representatives and State Senator G.C. Morris. The obituary was published in the May 25, 2008 edition of the Austin American Statesman.

"Dorothy Oneta McClurg Morris, 94, beloved mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord early Friday morning May 24, 2008. Formerly a longtime resident of Austin, she moved to Arlington, Texas, in October 2003 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Daughter of Charles W. and Emma Gidden McClurg, Dorothy was born in a farmhouse near Greenville, Texas, on March 4, 1914. She was the youngest daughter of 10 children.

She graduated from Greenville High School and later married G.C. Morris on December 16, 1934, at Wesley Methodist Church. Dorothy spent many hours on the campaign trail helping her husband become a state legislator serving in both the House and the Senate for many years, and was a member of the Texas State Senate Ladies Auxiliary. In 1952, the couple and their children moved to Austin where Dorothy lived for more than 50 years. She loved her role as a mother and always found time for her two children, George Carroll and Nancy Emaly.

Well known for her caring spirit and her willingness to listen, she enjoyed serving food (homemade cornbread) and iced tea to all who came to visit. She was a longtime member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin. Dorothy was preceded in death by her nine brothers and sisters, her son George Morris in 1989 and her dear husband G.C. Morris in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Stephens, her grandson Michael Stephens, granddaughter Rachel Stephens, and many loving nieces, nephews and special friends. The family expresses much gratitude to Town Village Arlington retirement home staff, Broadway Plaza assisted living community in Arlington, and All Star Home Health and Hospice of Arlington for their care and love for Dorothy...especially Nurse Jane Butler.

For those wishing to honor Dorothy with a memorial, please send donations to Tarrytown United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held Monday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27th, followed by a memorial service at Tarrytown United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m."
