AMONETT, JESSE M. (1828~1898) Jesse Amonett was a private in Company I, of the 12th Louisiana Infantry. He was born in Tennessee in 1828, possibly in a place called Byrdstown. Records indicate he married a Martha Armstrong in 1850. He enlisted in the Confederate Army August 19, 1861 at Camp More. He is present on the muster rolls until October of 1861. It is unclear if he participated in any of the 12th‘s battles in later years.
Amonett came to Texas in 1877 and was a farmer. When he entered the Confederate home on February 3, 1898 he was a widower. He also said his residence was Park Springs, Texas where his only correspondent listed also lived- a W.L. Amonett. The Confederate Home Roster lists his religious persuasion as Methodist. Jesse Amonett died November 14, 1898 and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
