CLINTON, JR., SAMUEL HOUSTON (1923~2004) Samuel Houston "Sam" Clinton, Jr., Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, was born September 17, 1923, to Faye Ramsey and Samuel Houston Clinton, Sr., he was born and raised in Waco, Texas where he attended Baylor University and later Baylor Law School.

After law school, Sam served as an assistant to Congressman W. R. "Bob" Poague in Washington, D.C. and worked as a fingerprint examiner for the FBI. He returned to Dallas to join the prestigious law firm of Mullinax and Wells. Later he moved to Austin, a city he dearly loved. He proudly served his country in WWII as a naval aviator, his state as a Judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and his city as a member of the Historic Landmark Commission. As a Judge, he served 3 consecutive 6-year terms duly elected as a Democrat. He was a constitutional scholar and avid historian, happily officing in one historic building as a member of the law firm Clinton and Richards and happily living in the first building zoned historic in Austin.

A noted trial attorney, Judge Clinton tried a number of high profile cases during his years in private practice. He was general counsel to the Texas AFL/CIO and the Texas Civil Liberties Union and a member of numerous committees serving the State Bar of Texas.

Judge Clinton passed away on October 5, 2004, and is survived by his beloved wife Hazel; children Lindsay, Scot, Sam, and Carol; grandchildren Sara and Evan; brother Ramsey and sister-in-law Emmy; niece Claudia, nephews Cleve and Carcy, their spouses and families; many cousins and friends.
